SAGA Marseille is handling a large-scale move into Algeria !

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

On behalf of its customer, SAGA is in charge of transporting the materials required to set up and put into operation an entire turbine wind farm in Kabertene Wilaya which is located in the southern Algeria, in the middle of the desert. The entire farm will generate 10MW of electricity. Overall, SAGA will be handling 12,000 m3 of equipment weighing 1,400 tonnes.

This is the first contract of its kind in Algeria and SAGA will be transporting the material by sea over several different shipments. The first shipment left on June 7th, 2012 from its origin point of Albacete-Rivabellosa in Spain. The freight was loaded on board in Castellon where it left for the port of Odran.

Loading began at 9 am on the 7th of June and lasted until 8 pm of the same day. The vessel left port at 10 pm. This very particular load for such a heavy and high-volume load even required special soldering work to be done in order to secure the ship's hold.

Operations will resume early in July with the transportation of 36 turbines of different dimensions, the longest measuring 25 meters long and having a diameter of 3 meters.
