The Republic of Kenya is a country in East Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the northeast, Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, and Sudan to the northwest, with the Indian Ocean running along the southeast border.
The first food-producing culture is maize, covering 62% of the farmable land (2,20 million tons in 2005. The sorghum, potatoes, beans, nuts ans tabacco are cultivated as well on high shelves, main agricultural region. Sugar canes, corn, manioc, ananas, cotton and cashew nuts are producted on coastal plain.
The main commercial culture is tea (295 000 tons in 2005) followed by far by coffee. An industry of cut flowers has been developped. Asa result, Kenya became the first rose suppliers of the European Union.
Nairobi continues to be the primary communication and financial hub of East Africa. It enjoys the region's best transportation linkages, communications infrastructure, and trained personnel, although these advantages are less prominent than in past years. A wide range of foreign firms maintain regional branch or representative offices in the city.
